Vintage Asian items are typically ornate, detailed and beautiful.  There are many different styles that can be incorporated into a home and business.  The vintage Asian décor can be strategically placed with just a vase or figurine here or there or it can include many different types of furniture and smaller decorative pieces in every room.

When shopping thrift stores, you will run across a huge variety of Asian themed pieces ranging from dishes to teapots to vases to wood carvings to wall hangings.  Vintage Asian furniture is not quite so readily found in thrift stores but occasionally you may find an interesting piece to add to your collection.  Antique stores often have valuable Asian furniture that is quite beautiful.

Asian mother of pearl table

We found this small intricate table while thrifting.  It is a mid-century, small solid wood table ideal for plants or collectibles.  The beautiful part of this table is the insert pieces of mother-of-pearl creating an intricate design on all pieces of the table. The mother-of-pearl pieces are cut with precision and inserted into the exact carvings of each piece on the table.

These types of tables can be found online ranging from $50.00 into thousands of dollars depending on the style, condition, era, maker and intricacy.  We believe this one is worth about $250.00, possibly more,  and it is in our booth at the antique mall.

Vases are often found in vintage or antique shops.  Most are valued in the $50.00-$150.00 range in these types of stores; however, occasionally you will find one with considerable value.  We see them in every size imaginable starting with a small one that could hold 3 or 4 flowers all the way up to a tall floor vase.  The less expensive vases tend to sell fast in booths.

The gold vase below is about three feet tall and is quite heavy ceramic. It would not fall over easily, making it great for a corner display or on the floor elsewhere.

Vintage Asian decor pieces

The red and gold container actually has a lid on it and is valued online for about $75.00; it is about 2 feet tall and on the heavier side.

The vase on the second shelf in the middle has real gold outlines with a delicate, hand-painted floral scene.  The smaller one has a peacock on it with some nice designing, as well.  Bamboo is quite popular in the Asian culture and is believed to bring good luck and prosperity.  It is often found in rooms that use a Feng Shui décor placement plan.  Putting some pieces of bamboo in a vase highlights the culture and beauty of both the piece and the bamboo spears.

The Chinoiserie style Asian scholar figurine in the middle is about 12 inches tall and has a lot of detail to it.  The plate has a very complex, hand-painted scene with gold trimming the edges.

Teapots are a popular mainstay in the vintage Asian collections.  When purchasing any type of teapot, be sure the lid is included. These are three unusual teapots in our collection:

Many vintage Asian pieces are delicate so when shopping, be sure there are no chips, cracks, glued pieces or missing parts.

Adding vintage Asian décor to your environment will be uplifting and create a sense of peace and beauty to your surroundings.
