Fitz and Floyd ceramic products began in 1960 by two brothers, Pat Fitzpatrick and Bob Floyd. The company’s early beginnings were in an import business. As the design and sale of hand-painted gift and décor products became more and more popular, they moved in that direction. The company saw impressive success and growth in the 1970s with various lines of giftware being produced in multiple locations. Fitz and Floyd products are highly sought-after today.
As the company grew, different types of materials were used in the products including porcelain, earthen and stoneware and fine china. Fans of Fitz and Floyd (FF) always love to feature their hand-painted dinner and tableware, collectibles and other décor accessories. Christmas and Easter holiday pieces are at the top in preference when it comes to collector’s favorite choices.
The vintage Fitz and Floyd beverage pitcher above features a tropical fruit design and hit market in 1988. It is a rare find but affordable at around $50.00 online.
Cookie jars, monkeys, vases…oh, my!
Amongst many Fitz and Floyd products, popular and affordable items include cookie jars, animal designs, plates, gravy boats, cups, plates, bowls, and vases. Some of their smaller pieces can be found for under $50.00 while others are well into the hundreds of dollars. Collectors or beginning collectors can find beautiful FF pieces in thrift stores, vintage shops and antique malls.
One of our favorite pieces is the rare monkey holding the banana centerpiece bowl manufactured in 1992. We found it in a small vintage marketplace in Boulder City, NV. It is in perfect condition and retails for around $225.00. There are many different FF products that incorporate a cute monkey theme into them.
Great FF items for the holiday dinner table
The FF gravy boat scene here boasts a fall pattern perfect for the Thanksgiving table. It holds about 16 ounces of gravy and adds a colorful touch to the holiday table.
The FF 1989 9-inch apple designed plate is hand-painted and a great addition to any kitchen décor. It has a shiny topcoat that really highlights the details in the apples.
The Christmas vase is a favorite of ours. It is very detailed with pinecones, flowers, an ornate bow, and gold rimming. It is about 9 inches tall and makes a beautiful addition to any holiday décor with pretty flowers in it. It ranges from $225-$300 today.
Fitz and Floyd products are often stamped on the bottom with the full name or FF and typically the year created is included, but not always. Sometimes the location where the product was manufactured is noted, as well.
If you like detailed, ornate and decorative pieces for your personal décor, be on the watch for Fitz and Floyd. It is always the highlight at home or in the office and draws admiring attention.
